Wellington Management today announced a new partnership with Citibank (Hong Kong) that will give the bank’s retail clients access to the Wellington Asia Technology fund, beginning in October 2026. The collaboration builds on the fund’s existing availability to Citi Hong Kong’s private banking clients.
“Drawing on strong investor interest in Asia’s technology sector, we are excited to bring the Wellington Asia Technology fund to Citi Hong Kong’s retail clients. The expanded partnership underscores our shared focus on providing investors with access to investment solutions and differentiated opportunities across Asia’s rapidly evolving technology landscape,” said Samuel Hui, managing director and head of Greater China wealth business, Wellington Management.
Managed by Yash Patodia, portfolio manager of the Wellington Asia Technology fund and sector co-head of technology, the strategy combines sector expertise with on-the-ground research across the region.
The team draws on decades of experience investing in Asian technology companies in both the public and private markets, while working closely with Wellington’s global tech team to identify investment opportunities, said Wellington in a statement
The fund was launched on 20 February 2025 and has assets of around $1.5bn, according to FE fundinfo. It has generated a cumulative return of 53.34% since launch, compared with the TMT sector average (for funds available to Hong Kong retail investors) of 20.35%.

The manager takes an active, all-cap approach to investing across Asia’s technology sector, seeking opportunities in both established market leaders and lesser-known companies that play critical roles in the technology ecosystem. Backed by Wellington’s dedicated Asia technology specialists and global research platform, the strategy invests in a concentrated portfolio of typically 45 to 75 stocks.
“By working with leading institutions such as Citi, we can connect more investors with Wellington’s specialist investment capabilities, while continuing to deliver a locally relevant experience backed by our global research platform and on-the-ground presence in Asia,” said Elizabeth Chisholm, head of APAC distribution, Wellington Management.
The shift towards retail and semi-liquid products is also exposing operational gaps, according to the survey.
The fund will aim to invest in 100-200 stocks.
